Contratto is Italy's oldest sparkling wine house - founded in 1867 and the recipe for this vermouth originates from the era. It matches many gins for those Negroni lovers reading, but we think it at it's best in a Manhattan.

Rich fruits and a lovely sweetness on the nose. Fresh citrus lead dark fruits, herbs and spice. The finish matches lingering sweetness with a dark chocolate touch.

About this product

Contratto use Cortese as the base for the Vermouth, (an indigenous white grape variety), fortify with Italian brandy and infuse the mix with 31 botanicals and extracts including nutmeg, sweet orange peel, sandalwood and cinnamon root for 20 days.

Contratto was founded in 1867 by Giuseppe Contratto, with the first Vermouth released in 1890s. In 2011, it was acquired by the Rivetti family who have helped restore much of the brand's former glory.

The winery has a long, distinguished history - at one point Contratto was the personal supplier to the Vatican as well as to the Italian Royal Family. Their historic cathedral cellars are now even designated a UNESCO Heritage Site.
