Kokoro is an English gin with a Japanese heart, inspired by the adventures of Uncle Nic, a larger than life character who ventured to the Orient in the late 1960s and became something of an accidental celebrity.

Kokoro Gin is an adventure in itself, with a bold juniper, super sweet liquorice and warming sansho spice. It’s peppery and bold, with waxy lemon and orange taking a backseat. It. Makes for a lovely G&T with fresh ginger and a twist of lemon.

Key Flavours

"Japanese inspired London Dry - the sansho berries are the draw here. They have a distinctly earthy black pepper flavour with a piney citrus aftertaste. That note shines in this gin, making it perfect for a complex Dry Martini."

About this product

Kokoro Gin is contract made at Thames Distillery, who load the botanicals – including lemon peel, savory, almond and Japanese sansho into Thames 500-litre John Dore still for a full night ahead of distillation.

Uncle Nic ended up buying lots of woodland in Japan, and has spent the past 30 years regenerating it. It was while walking there and being introduced to exotic botanicals that James Nicols and co-founder Barry Darnell found a direction for their gin.

Thames Distillers, based in South London, is a contract distillery responsible for creating so many of today’s gins. Distiller Charles Maxwell is a dab hand, able to perfect a gin within a couple of tries. If he’s made it, it’s good.
