Mayfield Sussex Hop Gin is a rich, oily and savoury tipple, with a huge herbal feel and a light spice. Its bold profile gives it some real strength in a G&T, so it doesn’t particularly need a garnish (though we’re always fond of a bay leaf).
There are eight botanicals in Mayfield Sussex Hop Gin: juniper, hops, orange peel, lemon peel, coriander, angelica, orris and liquorice. Each of the botanicals is distilled separately, then blended together afterwards.
Mayfield Distilling Company was founded by James Rackham, who decided on the direction for his gin after hearing of a variety of wild hop found growing in Sussex hedgerows, that was now being cultivated by farmer Andrew Head.
Their key ingredient used in Mayfield Distilling Company helps ground the gin with a sense of place - a single farm in East Sussex, where columns of hops rise to the sky.
