Rich caramelised nuts and fruit brandy greet the nose, before malt takes over. To taste, toasted chestnuts, orange zest, green apples, vanilla, plums and soft smoke that lingers. Wonderfully weird in all the right ways.
Process
Freud Distiller's Cut is initially matured in a combination of chestnut casks and ex-bourbon barrels, before being finished in casks that previously held Ziegler Old Plum brandy.
People
Based in Freudenberg am Main, Ziegler Distillery began as a brewery with distilling rights in 1865. They are best known for their wild cherry brandy Ziegler “No. 1 Wildkirsch” - a hugely popular brandy in fine dining circles.
Place
The first whisky from Ziegler Distillery, Freud Whisky Distillers Cut pays homage to their homeland and to the poetry of Ziegler’s famed Alte Zwetschge fruit brandy.
