Bowmore uses soft fresh water from the nearby River Laggan, barley grown and malted on the island and cultivated yeast to create their whisky. Maturing takes place in, No. 1 Vaults, the old stone warehouse that sits on the edge of Loch Indaal.
Bowmore Distillery was founded in 1779 by John Simpson, since then there has been various owners of the distillery from Glaswegian twin brothers William and James Mutter to the current owners, Beam Suntory, who acquired the distillery in 2014.
Bowmore distillery is situated along the shores of Long Indaal.
Bowmore 12 year old is both complex and perfectly balanced. Subtle lemon and sweet heather honey complement Bowmore’s trademark peat smoke, leading to a delicious, long and mellow finish.
Bowmore 15 year old is first matured in bourbon barrels then Oloroso casks, it's the final three years spent in the sherry casks that gives the whisky its particularly deep colour.
