The nose brings classic Caroni aromas of wood spices and diesel, complemented on the palate by notes of dried fruit, treacle toffee, toasted oak, warm spices and dry oak that linger in the finish.
Distilled in 1998 on column stills, this rum was aged in ex-bourbon casks and enjoyed maturation first in the tropics before it was transported to the UK between 2008-2010 for further maturation until 2022
John Barrett, owner of Bristol Spirits, was a rum enthusiast who purchased the remaining stocks of Caroni after the distillery closed in 2003. His bottlings with Bristol Spirits have become highly regarded.
Established in 1923 on the site of the old Caroni sugar factory with both column and pot stills, Caroni produced rums notable for a distinctive heavy profile. In 2001 it was sold by the Trinidad government to Angostura and then closed in 2002.
