IWSC 2024 Silver Discarded Banana Peel Rum lives up to its name in every possible way. Reusing what would otherwise be an unused Rum, upcycling peels that would otherwise be discarded and delivering a mightily tasty tipple in doing so. Won a Silver medal at the International Wine & Spirits Competition 2024.

Banana peel provides a fresh tropical fruity note, balanced against the toffee-like nature of the Caribbean Rum. Banoffee pie meets banana bread meets caramelised rum. Best served neat over ice, shaken in a Daiquiri or mixed long with Ginger Ale.

About this product

A Caribbean rum base has been matured in whisky casks. The peels are recovered to dry out and ferment, before being steeped in alcohol for two weeks. The rum and peel extracts are combined for another two days to complete the blending process.

The banana peel is sourced from a flavour house that uses the fruit but throws away the skins, while overall Discarded Spirits is made and owned by William Grant & Sons.

The Caribbean origin of the rum is undisclosed, but as it's used to season casks for Scotch Whisky purposes, it is likely to be a part of the William Grant stable of distilleries for a while before being used for Discarded.
