Guillermo Sauza launched Fortaleza in 2005 and has become one of the most famous tequilas around the world. With baked agave, vanilla and a slightly spicy and enduring finish, their Añejo is well worth a try.
Starting off as their Blanco - Fortaleza Añejo Tequila is aged for 18-24 months in used American Oak barrels that have been re-charred for the occasion.
"The agave notes in Fortaleza are bold enough to be able to withstand heavy oak aging, resulting in a tequila that is still able to balance vanilla, sweet spice, and tannins from the wood with cooked agave notes."
Fortaleza Añejo Tequila has a rich and complex flavour profile with the fully cooked agave adding a thick and oily texture that coats the tongue. It is made to be sipped.
Launched in 2005, Fortaleza Tequila is relatively new to the industry but has 140 years of history behind the brand, with the current owner's great-great-grandfather, Don Cenobio, founding his first distillery – La Perseverancia – in 1873.
Fortaleza Añejo Tequila agaves come from the heartland of tequila, known as Tequila Valley, in Jalisco, Mexico.
A hugely admired 100% Agave spirit with notes of citrus, cooked agave and buttery vanilla. Fortaleza Blanco is a true aficionado’s tequila.
"Fortaleza is a favourite of tequila aficionados the world over. This tequila is produced in a small batch manner/fashion, right down the the handblown bottles. A great example of 100% tahona-milled tequila."
