Red plum, apples and pear greet the nose. flanked by a touch of caramel spice. To taste it turns into charred oak and caramelised tropical fruits. A fine grating of spice (nutmeg, orange, clove) lingers with more tropical notes. What a journey!
Each cask has been constructed from five different types of wood, including Portuguese, American, French, Hungarian oak and Chestnut. The result is a complex melange of flavours imparted by each.
Kinahan’s was known for its famous ‘L.L’ mark after the Lord Lieutenant of Ireland instructed for it to be set apart for him. The Kinahan family ceased production in the 1920s but in 2014, Kinahan’s Irish Whiskey was revived as a limited company.
The Kinahan’s brand was founded in 1779, and has been one of the more progressive voices of Irish Whiskey ever since. It first gained its recognition back in the 1800s for its unconventional approach - something they have revived today.
