About this product

Whiskies are aged in two types of oak - specially selected casks seasoned with dry Oloroso sherry. One is American oak, which imparts flavours of vanilla, citrus and butterscotch, the other is European oak which delivers subtle spice.

The Macallan distillery was founded in 1824 by Alexander Reid, a barley farmer & schoolteacher. Despite being one of the first distilleries in Scotland to be legally licensed, whisky was made by farmers on their Speyside farms locally for centuries.

The Macallan distillery is located on a plateau above the river Spey in north-east Scotland, surrounding it is the 485 acre Easter Elchies Estate. The architecturally impressive, state-of-the-art distillery and visitor centre is a must see!
