Matured for around 3 years in oak barrels, this is a cachaça with depth and complexity. Velho Barreiro's Gold Cachaça was first introduced in 1999 as a limited edition, but has since become part of their core range due to its popularity.
Similar to its unaged sister, the Velho Barreiro Gold Cachaça has pungent notes of fruity cane and a peppery finish, but here, the oak has added a smoky touch to the finish alongside plenty of tannins.
Fermented sugar cane juice is double distilled in a column still, once distilled it’s then aged in Jequitibá Rosa wood barrels (a native timber to South America) for three years.
Indústrias Reunidas de Bebidas Tatuzinho was originally founded in 1950 in the city of Piracicaba, in central São Paulo. This popular brand of cachaça was launched 25 years later in 1975.
Made in the state of Sao Paulo, Velho Barreiro is one of the big cachaça names in Brazil, which is saying something given the nation drinks over 80% of the 1.3 billion litres of cachaça produced.
Velho Barreiro is a traditionally made cachaça and one of the big names in Brazil. This release has an incredibly light, easy-going nature.
