Woodford Reserve barrels are hand-crafted by an onsite cooper at the distillery. The barrels are new, white oak and charred as required - it’s this element which brings flavour, complexity and balance to the whiskies that are aged within them.
Woodford Reserve was launched in 1996 by Brown Forman Corp. Master Distiller Lincoln Henderson was at the helm until his retirement in 2003, Chris Morris succeeded as Master Distiller with Elizabeth McCall joining him in 2018 to develop new recipes.
The Woodford Reserve distillery is located eight miles outside Versailles, in Woodford County, Kentucky USA. On the same site once was Kentucky’s oldest, most important distilleries which was founded by Elijah and his son, Oscar Pepper, in the 1800s.
Taking from the pre prohibition style, Woodford Reserve Rye is made with 53% rye, 33% corn and 14% malted barley.
Woodford Reserve Double Oaked Bourbon to begin is aged in the same manner as Woodford Reserve but is finished in a second lightly charred and heavily toasted barrel.
