Fiesta of Flavours: A Latin America Themed Month!
Posted by Spirits Kiosk on 1 Jun 2023
Hola, amigos! This month we’re coming to you with a wave of excitement and a dash of Latin flair.
We're thrilled to announce that we're dedicating an entire month to the spirited zest of Latin America. Get ready for a tantalising journey through the vibrant world of Latin American spirits and cocktails!
Why have we chosen to do this?
Well, simply put, Latin America has a rich tapestry of cultures and traditions. Their spirits are a reflection of this diversity. They represent a blend of indigenous heritage alongside Spanish, French, English and Portuguese influence and local innovation. Pick up a bottle and see for yourself! You'll find an astonishing variety of flavours and experiences.
Our Latin America-themed month is our tribute to this fantastic region and its intoxicating spirit(s).
As part of our month-long celebration, we'll be taking you on a virtual tour of some of the most famous Latin American cocktails. We'll dive into the fascinating histories and traditions behind these drinks, giving you a sip of their cultural significance. And of course, we'll show you how to craft these iconic serves right in your home, turning your kitchen into the heart of the party!
First on our list is Brazil's national cocktail, the Caipiriñha. This refreshing concoction, made from cachaça, sugar and lime, captures the essence of Brazilian spirit. It's the perfect blend of sweet, sour and strong, with the unique flavour of cachaça adding its distinct twist.
We’ll be talking all about cachaça as a spirit too – unveiling what it's about and why it flies under the radar.
Next, we travel to Cuba for the world-renowned Mojito. This classic cocktail, made with rum, fresh mint, lime wedges, sugar and soda water, is the embodiment of Cuban zest for life.
The Mojito’s refreshing minty tang is a hit in hot weather, making it a summer favourite around the globe and a drink you best brush up your skills on ahead of the sunny weekends ahead.
We've not chosen to go with a cuban rum though, but more on that in the blog...
Heading south, we touch down in Peru (and Chile!) for the Pisco Sour. This sour yet sweet cocktail is made from Pisco, a type of brandy, mixed with lime juice, egg white, simple syrup and a dash of bitters.
This frothy delight perfectly showcases the smooth, potent character of Pisco, a spirit steeped in centuries of tradition and fierce national pride. Oh, and controversy, but we’ll get to that and equip you with the full briefing as to why…
Finally, we fly north to Mexico for the Paloma, a tequila-based cocktail that's often overshadowed by its famous cousin, the Margarita. Combining tequila with grapefruit soda, lime juice and a pinch of salt, the Paloma is a refreshing and subtly sweet cocktail that's perfect for those long, leisurely afternoons.
But the journey doesn't stop there!
We'll also be featuring the spirits that hail from these regions. Expect to learn about the intricacies of mezcal, the versatility of rhum agricole, the boldness of pisco and the distinct character of cachaça.
We've handpicked selection of these spirits, available for purchase right here on Spirits Kiosk and will be featuring them on our social accounts, talking about why each is interesting and what to do with them.
Are you ready to join us for this exciting journey?
Get set to expand your palate and use this as a fantastic opportunity to discover new favourites and broaden your taste horizons.
If you can suspend disbelief for a second, you’ll be able to experience the culture that is imbued into the spirits, and see how each bottle can be window into the region's history, its traditions and lifestyle.
We hope that you revel in what our intention is – to make this Latin America-themed month a celebration of diversity, tradition and the joy of discovery. Most of all, we hope you'll join us in raising a glass (or two) to the vibrant spirits that lie ahead.
Salud, amigos!
