Flor de Caña’s story began in 1875 when Alfredo Francisco Pellas Canessa, a young Italian adventurer, left home to travel to the exotic country of Nicaragua. He established the distillery in 1890 and it is now a 5th generation family business. The Flor de Caña distillery was founded in 1890 at the base of the San Cristóbal volcano, the tallest and most active volcano in Nicaragua. Today the distillery is fair trade certified and carbon neutral.
