Initially created in the 1930s, the recipe is a fiercely guarded secret although the main ingredients known to be infused are fresh bitter orange peel, mace, cinnamon and of course, wormwood.
Carpano was founded in 1786 by Antonio Benedetto Carpano, who owned a wine bar in the centre of Turin on the Piazza Castello. It is part of the Fratelli Branca group.
Carpano is made in the Piedmond region of Italy, with the base wines are sourced from Romagna, Puglia and Sicily.
A full on, outrageously delicious sweet vermouth, laden with deep red wine tones accentuated by vanilla. Fantastic to use in the likes of a Martinez or a Negroni.
