Lochlea 'Ploughing Edition' is the fourth and final limited-edition seasonal bottlings. This release was created to represent the winter months at Lochlea Farm - when they begin to plough, ready to sow the barley in the Spring.
Lochlea's signature fruitiness meets peat on the nose. Stewed apple, malt and Brazil nuts builds towards lingering fruit and enveloping Islay peat smoke.
This limited release was made using a combination of ex-Islay whisky barrels and peated quarter casks. Bottled at 46% abv, with natural colour without chill-filtration.
Lochlea is owned by Neil McGeoch and is an independent family-owned distillery ever since the first spirit was distilled in 2018. Whisky production is overseen by Production Director John Campbell (formerly of Laphroaig Distillery).
Nestled in the heart of Ayrshire, Lochlea was originally a cattle farm. Extending some 222 acres, the new owners acquired it in 2006 and realised that for a farm of that size to be viable they needed to do something very different.
