Nikka Coffey Grain Whisky is produced mostly from corn distilled through Coffey stills that were imported from Scotland in 1963 to the Miyagikyo Distillery. A tasty spirit with tropical fruit aromas alongside vanilla and dried citrus fruit to finish.

Sweet spice says hello, but the aroma is all about the tropical fruit. To taste caramel, more tropical fruit and a hint of fresh popcorn. Add a splash of water to open it up even more.

These impressive copper-pot stills are able to produce a whisky which is wonderfully complex and flavourful than some of the more modern column stills, due to its age and shape.

Masataka Taketsuru is the founder of Nikka Whisky. He enrolled at the University of Glasgow, Scotland, becoming the first Japanese ever to study the art of whisky-making. Later he returned to Japan and produced the country's first single malt whisky.

In 1934 Masataka opened the Nikka Whisky Co distillery in the town of Yoichi. Later, his second distillery was located in foggy glen surrounded by mountains and at a junction of two clean rivers, by coincidence the name of the river was Nikkawa.
