Heritage Hunter is the inaugural limited release of 50 barrels created from a old barley variety that disappeared from the whiskey making landscape in favour of higher yield crops. Once forgotten, now revived and turned into a delicious spirit!

Hay, oaked spice, and orchard fruit on the nose. To taste rich buttery biscuits, more orchard fruits, cereal and rounded spices. The finish lingers with charred oak.

About this product

Hunter 1.1 uses the flavourful barley variety introduced by Dr Herbert Hunter. Once distilled it was matured in a combination of American oak, French oak and French sweet wine casks.

Waterford Distillery is the brainchild of Mark Reynier, whose previous career encompasses 20 years in the wine trade, before taking on the then-abandoned Bruichladdich distillery in 2000. In 2015 Reynier announced the launch of Waterford Distillery.

The release is named after pioneering plant breeder Dr Herbert Hunter, whose barely varietal was introduced in 1959, widely used for two decades & noted for its distinctive flavour. This release reintroduces this vintage barley once more.
