Earthy malted undertones and cooked apple on the nose. Zesty citrus builds to taste, dry toast and granola follow before malt and pepper add a spiciness to the finish. Slightly herbal (caraway meets tomato leaf) overall.
Aged around four and a half years in a combination of first-fill and virgin American oak, French oak, and sweet wine casks. Barley sourced from 25 different farms. Natural colour, non-chill-filtered.
Waterford Distillery is the brainchild of Mark Reynier, whose previous career encompasses 20 years in the wine trade, before taking on the then-abandoned Bruichladdich distillery in 2000. In 2015 Reynier announced the launch of Waterford Distillery.
In contrast to their single origin series with this release, the distillery have drawn on their mature stocks of single origin whisky and married them together. The aim is to balance the flavours derived from different terroirs to create depth.
